Guest Post: Husband Notes
I've been assigned a guest-post by Julie.
- She's working on a quilt right now for a friend who is going with her husband to New York City so he can go to law school. She and this friend have grown pretty close over the past year or so. It's sad that she's going to go.
- Julie and I had a pretty good laugh today when we ate our lunch of Maruchan Instant Lunch. We had the cheddar cheese flavor, which we agreed tastes best if you completely eliminate any idea of cheddar or cheese from your mind, and just think about it as food. Then we decided maybe it's even better if you don't think of it as food, but just as "something". Then we decided that it's better if you don't even consider it something, but just raise and eyebrow and cock your head to the right in reference to "it." Guess you had to be there.
- Stanley broke our will tonight when we put him to bed at eight. He cried for a half hour and was going strong when we just decided to get him out of bed. It turned out to be fortuitous, because we went on a walk to deliver a loaf of bread that Julie made (potato peasant bread, according to the recipe--the name spawned a lengthy conversation about what makes something rustic when it's food. We decided texture has something to do with it. And maybe that's it's done carelessly. I would say that you'll definitely nail the rustic thing if you bake a small piece of raffia into whatever it is you're making.) We went on this walk to the people to whom we were going to give the bread, and they were out in front of their house with some other people in the neighborhood. We stayed and chatted with them until about ten. Stan seemed to love being outside, especially having just avoided going to bed and then being able to stay up an extra hour and a half. He also found a friend with whom to play "I throw it on the ground and you pick it up for me," one of his favorite games.
- Julie roasted a chicken tonight. I think a whole chicken is a better meal for two or three than it is for four, because there's less pressure to get a whole bunch of meat off the chicken right away. There's plenty of meat for more people, but it's nice to have time to pick it off.
- I made some Grape Illusion flavored Kool Aid today. It turns out that the Illusion part relates to how the Kool Aid is red colored, but it tastes like grape. It's hard to remember that it tastes like grape, because although it does taste like grape when you close your eyes and think about purple colored grape, when you just drink the red liquid, your mind makes an overriding assumption and it's some kind of cherry/strawberry/raspberry/tropical punch thing. Either way, it's sweet, and that's the whole point.
- Julie thinks five points is plenty.
This is so cool! I think all husbands aught to write a guest blog, especially if they aren't writing their own blog on a regular and frequent basis. ;)
